Cement Mill Fan Rotor — Dynamic Balancing & Journal Machining
Scope of Work
Workshop dynamic balancing of a 680 kg ID fan rotor to ISO 21940-11 G2.5 quality grade, plus journal grinding and polishing on both drive-end and non-drive-end journals.
The Challenge
Rotor arrived with severe cement build-up, journal scoring from collapsed bearing, and a residual imbalance of ~420 g·mm from the field — well outside ISO G2.5 limits for operating speed.
Our Solution
Cement deposits cleaned by grit blasting. Both journals ground undersized by 0.10 mm and polished to Ra 0.4 µm. Rotor then balanced in our two-plane dynamic balancing machine (capacity 2000 kg, speed to 1500 RPM). Final residual imbalance: 6 g·mm per plane (ISO G1.0 achieved).
Measured Outcomes
- Residual imbalance: 6 g·mm/plane — better than G1.0
- Journal surface finish: Ra 0.38 µm both ends
- Vibration at full speed (980 RPM) post-installation: 0.9 mm/s
- Bearing temperatures normalised within 2 hours of first run
